t
was February, 1996, as well as I can remember.
I was in London.
We were going downtown from north by the tube.
As we stayed more than it required in one of the stations we
sensed that there was some kind of trouble.
We weren’t mistaken in our suspicions..
Shortly after, announcements were broadcast.
Police invited people to the daylight.
There was a bomb warning. Huge historical London tube was
searched by dogs and I never forget one hour later everything
went back to normal.
I know the English police They are not cowards. They are very
conscious of their public duties.
Mostly they don’t respond to verbal abuse. They are quite
polite.
By the way, having separated Galatasaray community from the
murders in Taksim, Istanbul, English Press have accepted that
there has been an injustice with the biased decision of UEFA and
admitted that Leeds police were incapable against the hooligans.
There is no need to look for any bad intention in these views
but police must have suspicions about what the hooligans might
do.
At
present, old or new members of parliament, ministers and famous
reporters besides the quota set for Galatasaray community are
also preparing to go to Leeds.
With strange feelings.
I asked this matter to a friend of mine who has been living in
London for many years.
He said the following:
‘I was in the court for translation yesterday.
I asked this matter to a police officer and an English lawyer.
They said ‘our people are already such hooligans that we know
what might happen.
We can not blindly allow this to happen.’
Our
hopes and prayers are that nothing will happen either before or
after the hours when life will stop in Turkey and in England.
