SÛRA-I FATÝHA -3-

Maliki yövmiddiyn,

Or

Meliki yövmiddiyn.

Malik is a word which means ‘’the owner’’; whereas Melik is a word meaning  ‘the sovereign who rules what he owns’’.

There is a name given to the people of Makkah and Madinah : ‘’Haremeyn’’.

While repeating  the Chapter of Fatihah, these people were using the phrase Meliki Yövmiddiyn instead of Maliki Yövmiddiyn.

The word Yövm which is found in the verse has two meanings in Arabic;

A day and An Instant.

As it is known,  a day is a concept related to the turn of the world around its axis which lasts for 23.56 hrs.

On the other hand  an instant is the evaluation of a concept which cannot be expressed by the concept of time.

With a sentence such as ‘’It happenned and finished in an instant’’, we can express the dimension of the instant  in a metaphorical way. (See Ya’sin 82)

We can describe the word  Din=Religion as follows :

‘’The whole  the divine decrees.’’

When the concepts of the Koran become more clear, then the meaning of  Maliki Yövmiddiyn

becomes;

‘’who executes his own decrees within an Instant’’or depending on the degree of perception  ‘’The One who executes his decrees every instant’’...

As we all know,  the being who is the owner of the decree is the one who rules,  who trains, and manages is the Rabb/the Lord in other words Allah.

Ýbn-i Abbas (r.a) narrates:

‘’In the expression  ‘The owner of the day of the religion’, there is no one other than Allah who owns the right of ruling.’’ (Note: In this sentence we can understand the day of the religion as the instant which covers all the instants from the creation of the Universe till infinity.)

In additon to this fact, there wouldn’t be any domains as there are in the world.’’

While Ýbn-i Abbas is expressing these, he is also pointing out that they should be evaluated under the light of the verse (Mümin 16)  which says ‘’To whom belongs  the sovereignity this day? It is Allah’s, the Only One, the Wrathful’’

If a being perceives and puts into practice the conditions brought along by this verse, in other words if he has chosen as a life style the ‘’Oneness of Existence’’, then he is going to put forth this quality in the dimension beyond death and will be having such a life style till infinity.

Another  point on which comments should be given is the following;

What has happenned on the day  of  Allah who is the owner of the sovereignity?

Describing  the day of the Religion as the judgement day, on which all the created beings are being questioned would not be rational, because Allah is  ser-ül hisab, that is Allah judges immediately.

With another meaning the doomsday is being explained with these words. This day should not be accepted as a day of questioning, but a day on which all the deeds that have been performed during one’s lifetime  can be seen openly and clearly.

To be continued next week...
